Teaching Methods
Based on rich teaching experience and academic requirements, a wide range of teaching methods are used by the faculty, including lectures, business cases and discussions, group projects, and field trips. All methods are designed to enhance the student’s ability to manage, motivate😼, innovate, and lead.
Grade Evaluation
Grades are based on individual assignments, group assignments, presentations, case a🍸nalyses, in-class exams, take-home exams, class participation, etc. The Grade Point Average (GPA) system will be used to evaluate the student’s performance in each course, which is aligned with that used in the Carlson School of Management. Students mus🦹t maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) to satisfy the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree requirements.
Global Team Project
The Global Team Project (GTP) provides Carlson School Executive MBA students from programs in Guangzhou, Mඣinneapolis and Vienna with the unique opportunity to work 🔥in a collaborative team environment across cultures, industries and markets. As participants in the GTP, students develop advanced skills in teamwork, cross-cultural collaboration, and business plan development within a dynamic environment shaped by academic rigor and the demands of real-world international business. Teams present their final business plans during the International Residency in the United States at the end of their degree program.
Project Objectives
- To challenge student's creativity by asking them to develop a business plan for introducing a product or service in an overseas market. Each team will go through a process of soliciting ideas from everyone on the team, discussing them, and dec𝔉iding on a strategic solution.
- To give students an opportunity to put theory into practice by applying manaꦚgerial tools learned from EMBA courses in strategy, i🐲nternational marketing, operations management, entrepreneurship, and finance, among others, and incorporating them into a business plan that is grounded in the real world.
- To foster a professional (and personal) network acros🐲s three continents.
"CHEMBA students have contributed to a rich and deep learning experience in the process of working on cross-cultural teams. They have also enjoyed the opportunity to meet with their teammates during the international residency week in Minneapolis. Given the growing importance of China in the world economy, CHEMBA students' perspective adds significant value to the program and all of its participants."
--Prof.Svjetlana Madzar, Carlson School of Management
International Residency
During a week-long, intensive International Residency course in May, the CHEMBA students and the Vienna Executive MBA students participate together in the final course of their degree program on the Carlson School campus in Minnesota. Students interact with executives at leading Minnesota companies and with top Carlson School faculty during academic c𝔉ourse sessions. In addition to the academic rigor of the International Residency course, stu🌸dents have the opportunity to explore the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, home to approximately 20 Fortune 500 companies, and to experience student life on the University of Minnesota campus. The International Residency culminates in the Carlson School Graduate Commencement Ceremony.
Corporate Visits
Despite its remote location in the north in U.S., the State of Minnesota ha♈s a solidified foundation for industrial development. A great number of significant companies are world leaders in the industry, which defend its undoubted claim as the most intense hub of the Fortune 500 headquarters. The visits to the most promising corporations in Minnesota, such as powerful department store Target, innovative manufacturing 3M and information service firm Thomson Reuters and so on, enable students to probe into the mechanism and momentum of business boom in US. The visits are proactive and interactive, during which the students will explore the showroom, the working environment as well as the production line and have discussi🍌on with the top management team on operation and management. The remarkable disparities between domestic and U.S. corporate environments, being physical and cultural, will definitely arouse the students’ reflections on U.S. leading position. The cutting-edge technology application, the unanimous implementation in an organization, the culture of respect for personalities have immensely impressed and inspired the students.
Global Team Project Presentation
The academic sessions aim to provide a summary to students’ EMBA study as a whole. The global EMBA students share their viewpoints on cross-cultural teamwork after 8-months long GTP collaboration. All the GTP participants draw a conclusion that there is inevitable discordance and conflicts when pursuing the team goal and the key to these issues is m🌺utual respect and skill in cross-cultural communication. The GTP presentation is conducted in a formal and fun way. All the teams will present on stage and make full use of all talents and creativity to convince the committee. At the final presentation, the audience will vote for the decision of investment. The cross-cultural business collaboration is a unique offering among business schools world-wide, which is proved to be a real ground for experiential learning.
Commencement
The commencement has a long tradition in US. On that day, with the gown on them, up to a thousand graduates from the Carlson School of Management will file into the arena in the applause of faculty lining up on both sides. An honorabl🦩e speaker, usually a prominent practitioner in business, is invited to address to the graduates, congratulating them on the completion of program and encouraging them to fight persistently in career. Finally, with the gown symbolizing their academic accomplishments, the Dean and faculty confer the diploma to the students and annou🧜nce the title achieved by efforts. The families of global EMBA students are invited as well to attend the commencement to celebrate the victorious moment.
